Simple, but Effective exercises for Eye Strain

The visual system may depict no signs that it is tired from the regular functions, but it is mainly your responsibility to take care of it. Regular activities using the computer for a long time, driving throughout the day, reading for extended periods and watching movies on screen for long hours, especially on laptops may cause eyestrain, says the leading ophthalmologist at Rana hospital, the leading LASIK Eye Centre in India.

Here are the simple eye exercises to relieve your eyes from strain and possible trouble.

  1. Taking breaks

We all understand that our jobs are crucial for a successful living, but money with poor health even minor pain isn’t worth. Therefore, take breaks from your computer as much as you can to provide rest to your eyes.

2. Visual Scan

This is probably one of the most interesting eyes strain exercise you can adopt at your work without moving out of that seat. Simply sit back, relax and get various objects and then trace them from their outline beginning from one point, around the object and then back to that point. It is effortless and indeed interesting.

3. Palming

This is the best stress reliever that you can adopt. Simply wash your hands, sit back, relax, and rub your hands together to generate some heat through friction. Then place the cupped hands over your closed eyes with the longest fingers overlapping the eyebrows. Do not let any part of the fingers touch the eyes and then sit quietly for 2 or 3 minutes. You can do this at any time to revive your eye’s strength.

4. Near-far Focus

This focusing exercise improves the eye’s flexibility. Stand straight and hold your thumb about six inches from your nose and then focus on it. You can then focus on any object in front of you that is about 11 or 15 feet away from you.

5. Eye aerobics

1st exercise

Sit and relax in a chair and then close your eyes plus the eyelids. Look upward as far as you can, but without straining the eye and then look downward. Repeat the procedure for at least 2 or 3 times.

Open the eyes for some few minutes and then close them again and the eyelids. Move the eye slowly towards the right and then to the left. Do this for 3 times and then open your eyes.

2nd exercise

Imagine that you are standing in front of a large cloak and then look at the middle of it. Then look at any hour mark without turning your head and then look back at the center. Continue changing the hour mark doing the same exercise for at least 12 times.

3rd exercise

Look at the opposite wall and pretend to be writing with your own eyes. Try not to relocate your head and do it for as long as you can.

6. Hot & Cold Compress

Soak one clean towel in warm water and another in cold water. Gently place one towel at a time on the eye as you interchange the towels. But try to focus on the eyebrows, cheeks, and closed eyelids while your eyes are closed.

These simple exercises will automatically delay any requirement for eye treatment in India as long as possible.
